WEEK 07 : Scale Week 7 货 huò

Tue Feb 26, 2019 Welcome to Scale Week 7. We have Human Rights and Animal Right, but should we have Computer Rights? by Clement Renaud. 1st whitepapers of Bitcoin & Ethereum, Guidelines of Wikipedia & Universe Multiverse. We are testing out a few improvements such as using our Chinese word of the week as the general theme or prompt for the issue. Also, we have a new version of our site to be tested. If interested, please join our chat: https://t.me/qihardware. Thanks for reading! Feedback Welcome.

Word of the Week 货 huò

货 huò - Meaning 'goods', the word is composed by the cowry (bei 贝貝 bèi), an ancient Chinese money, and the character (hua 化) which means 'to transform'.

货 huo is a verycommon character in Chinese language, which can mean ‘goods’ or ‘commodity’. In the daily life, 货 represents any outcome of work, in manufacturing but also services and products. ‘干货’ ganhuo, literally to ‘make goods’ is a popular way of saying ‘to work’ (official documents have even adopted the term). For Chinese new year, people will stock their home with 年货 (nian huo) litteraly ‘yearly goods’ : fruits, vegetables, sunflower seeds and other delicacies for the celebrations. Beyond the simple act of producing, 货 is what is transformed by people to make life.

艺术 (yishu) art, 工艺 (gongyi) manual work, 手艺 (shouyi) craftmanship are all part of the same group of ideas in Chinese, expressed with 艺 (yi). In its traditional form, *yi* (藝) is a compound from grass (艹艸 cǎo), clouds (云 yún) and 埶 (yi) - an ancient word representing a kneeling person using its hands (丮) to model earth and wood (坴). More than just art, *yi* represents the talent, that is the ability to do something that should be cultivated to become a culture (文艺 wenyi).

WEEK 18 : Scale Week 18 四 sì

Wed May 15, 2019 Scale Week 18 四 sì is. 4 Original Writings. Its a family affair. Post-self-unblock, Jon takes the pass in his writing Alley-oop and uses the energy to unblock his Mom and Dad from their writing blocks. First time contributions from Sally Phillips explaining depression era zerowaste policies. Doug Phillips writes "Chainsaw Manicure!" providing some reflection and hope through describing what it is like to be a minister using a chainsaw to chop church pews, "his past." Scale 18 connects to history and upgrades the past (check the website to see :).

Word of the Week 四 sì is the numeral 4.

四 sì is more complicated to write than 1, 2, and 3. And, it sounds like the word for death if you do not know your Mandarin tones. 四 sì is the number 4 and because of this association with the sound of death, many people brought up in Chinese culture believe that 4 is a cursed number. If you want to find a house, or good deal on a number, and do not believe that 四 sì is bad, then you might get a deal. 四 sì also introduces one to the concept of boxes or frames in Chinese writing. From Wikipedia: <https://enwp.org/Chinese_numerals>

WEEK 16 : Scale Week 16 二 èr

Mon Apr 29, 2019 Scale Week 16 二 èr is ART (bad joke, but is sound of èr). Clement Renaud answered the call, and shared a writing, The Writer's Debt and subsequently made a listing of his approach to take control back in his life. Jon Phillips reminded us that ONG2 happened, 7 statements wered made from ONG Records and Fabricatorz Foundation. He also made a writing about his approach to tackling NOT TO DO LISTS, called JINTIAN. Paying Down All Forms of Debt, Scale 16. Feedback Welcome.

Word of the Week 二 èr is the numeral 2.

二 èr sounds like ARE or ART, or the sound a pirate makes. More complicated than the simple one horizontal line of 1 in Chinese, a pattern becomes clear and similar to the vertical striking system of counting, there are cross cultural similarties. Written fron left to right with a brush, ideally one sees the strokes in Chinese characters to see more information. From Wikipedia: <https://enwp.org/Chinese_numerals>
